The Process of Transformation/ Part 1

IMG_1383During the next few months I’m in the process of  transforming a series of wooden sculptures, Re-membering the Forest, into bronze castings.  The process is a collaboration demanding various energies and skills. I’m very thankful to a generous patron who is sponsoring the project and also lucky to be working with Sharon (Sher) Hertzler the owner of the Mystic River Foundry in Connecticut. Both my patron and Sher are people who love challenges and always go full steam ahead on projects they undertake.

Before the pieces get cast I’ll be dismembering them so that the  foundry can prepare the various sand molds needed.  But before I took them apart I experimented with the sculptures as a full scale element in an indoor installation. Here is that process in the studio      I’ll also be documenting the transformation as it goes from wood to bronze. If you’re interested in the process stay tuned and watch it go to the foundry then get reassembled in a new material that is permanent and public friendly.  The sculpture and related works will have their first unveiling next June at the Deedee Shattuck Gallery in Westport, Massachusetts with beautiful spaces indoor and out. They’ll then travel to other venues.
